Uneven teeth can appear perfectly straight with veneers, without going through the lengthy and inconvenient process of orthodontic treatment. They require only a few visits to the dentist, and the process is not always invasive when compared with treatments such as crowns, bridges or implants.
Veneers are also an extremely versatile treatment. They can be used to disguise many different dental issues such as cracks, unevenness, misaligned or misshapen teeth, and also to improve colour. Whereas to achieve the same results with your natural teeth may require extensive straightening, crowns and various whitening treatments, all cosmetic and discolouration issues can be fixed in one go with the application of veneers. At the same time they provide a durable solution, feeling and acting just like natural teeth.

Although there are a few steps in the process of getting dental veneers, it is relatively short and uncomplicated compared to many other cosmetic treatments.
As with any treatment, you begin with a general checkup to ensure your general dental health, address any underlying issues and check your suitability for veneers. This also gives you an opportunity to discuss the various options available with your dentist, and ensure you are getting exactly the right treatment for you.
Your dentist will then plan your veneer treatment with you, thinking about exactly the sort of impression you want your veneers to give. Here you will consider factors like the size and shape of teeth that you would like, and the shade of colour, planning the perfect smile for you.
Your dentist may then need to remove some of the enamel from the surface of your teeth to allow for the thickness of the veneers. This is done under local anaesthetic and is not painful, although you may notice a slight sensitivity afterwards if consuming hot or cold food or drinks. This sensitivity will go again once the veneers are fitted. Your dentist will then take impressions of your teeth, which will be sent to a dental lab where expert technicians will create veneers to fit you perfectly.
Once your veneers are ready, you will have another appointment for fitting. Your dentist will ensure your veneers are the perfect size and shape, and bond them to your teeth with dental cement. Once in place, your dentist may also trim or polish the veneers for a perfect finish.
There are also a range of health benefits to undergoing straightening treatments. Better aligned teeth are less prone to plaque buildup and are easier to keep clean, making problems like gum disease and tooth decay less likely. Better bite alignment also reduces the risk of trauma injuries

Finance and pay-as-you-go are available and can be discussed with your dentist at the initial consultation.
Veneers require no specialist care beyond what you should do for your natural teeth, and with a little looking-after they will remain beautiful and functional for many years to come.
First, you should follow a good oral hygiene routine of brushing and between your teeth twice a day to prevent any buildup of plaque and bacteria, helping your teeth, mouth and gums to stay healthy. Avoid abusing your teeth, for example by using them as tools or by chewing your nails. Although porcelain veneers are highly resistant to staining, try to avoid food and drinks which can stain your teeth such as coffee and red wine, or brush your teeth after consuming them.
Lastly, ensure you continue to come to the clinic for regular checkups. Your dentist can spot any potential issues with your veneers before they develop into a serious problem, give you any necessary advice on their care, and help to ensure your overall dental and oral health.
