Bishops park
Running along the River Thames is Bishops Park in Fulham. Beginning at the All Saints Church, the park features on the register of parks and gardens of special historic interest and is maintained by English Heritage. Originally opened in 1893, the park offers scenic vistas and a peaceful environment to enjoy, whether you’re on foot or on your bike. The park features a tree-lined avenue as well as bowling greens, tennis courts, and facilities for basketball and skating.
History
Originally opened to the public in 1893, what is now known as Bishops Park was once part of the grounds of Fulham Palace, which dates back to the 11th century. During the Victorian era, many parks were being established across London in order to improve public health and increase access to green spaces. The grounds where the park sits were acquired by the Fulham Vestry, who then commissioned landscape architect Alexander McKenzie to design the park, featuring riverside promenades, sports facilities and playgrounds.
